UH Adds Two More Regional Qualifiers

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team qualifed two more athletes to this year's NCAA West Regionals after Brittani Daniels and Alana Faagai made standard in the discus at the Beach Invitational Saturday night.

Both qualified for their first NCAA Regional and pushed the team's total to a school-record nine qualifiers this season. The total supasses last year's record when seven Rainbow Wahine qualified for regionals.

Daniels, a sophomore from San Bernardino, Calif., heaved 156-3 (47.64m) while Faagai, a sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., threw 156-3 (47.61m).

The two will join seven other Rainbow Wahine who already qualified in their respective events. So far this season, Thalia Amanakis (400m Hurdles), Emily Sheppard (high jump), Jessica Custance (pole vault), Patricia Gauthier (pole vault), Samantha Weaver (pole vault), Meghan Weaver (shot put), and Annett Wichmann (javelin) will represent UH at the West Regionals in Northridge, Calif., May 30-31. In addition, Wichmann has already automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon.

Daniels and Faagai were among a number of Rainbow Wahine in action at the Beach Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays. The team returns on Sunday following a five-day, five-meet road trip through California.
