LOS ANGELES - The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team kicked off its weeklong road trip by setting three NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Cal State Los Angeles' Twilight Open Wednesday at the Jesse Owens Track.
The Rainbow Wahine are currently in southern California where they are scheduled to compete in five meets in five days. Earlier in the day, UH sent two heptathletes to compete at the Mt. SAC Multi-Events in Azusa, Calif.
At the Twilight Open, Jessica Custance, Patricia Gauthier and Meghan Weaver made regional standard in their respective events. Custance tied her school record, which she shares with Gauthier, in the pole vault after clearing 13-1.5 (4.00m). Gauthier finished third in the event with a mark of 12-7.5 (3.85m). Last weekend, Gauthier equaled Custance's school record mark at the Sunset Meet #3 at Cooke Field.
Weaver won the shot put competition with a throw of 51-1.75 (15.59m) in addition to winning the discus event with a heave of 154-9 (47.18m).
UH's Annett Wichmann and Emily Sheppard will compete in the final round of the Mt. SAC and California Invitational Multi-Events on Thursday. The rest of the Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Mt. SAC Relays and Azusa Pacific Invitational on Friday.
