AZUSA, Calif. - A pair of University of Hawai`i track and field athletes were in action on the first day of the Mt. SAC Multi-Events and California Invitational Multi-Events Wednesday at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium. UH heptathlon record holder
Annett Wichmann is currently in eighth place at Mt. SAC while
Emily Sheppard is in seventh at the California Invitational.
Wichmann, the two-time Western Athletic Conference champion in the event, posted a modest Day 1 score of 3,166 points, but has the third highest total among collegiate performers. Among the 16 entrants, Wichmann placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.77), sixth in the high jump (5-6/1.68m), third in the shot put (42-3.25/12.88m) and 14th in the 200-meter dash (26.60).
Sheppard is competing in her first heptathlon as a Rainbow Wahine. UH's high jump record holder posted a Day 1 score of 2,854 points. Among 34 competitors, Sheppard placed 21st in the 100-meter hurdles (15.93), tied for first in the high jump (5-8.5/1.74m), 29th in the shot put (28-9.75/8.78m) and 10th in the 200-meter dash (26.22).
Both multi-events conclude on Thursday. The rest of the Rainbow Wahine are scheduled to compete at the Cal State Los Angeles' Twilight Open Wednesday night.
