Standout Performances By UH Athletes At Sunset Meet

HONOLULU - A number of University of Hawai'i track and field athletes posted standout performances at the Sunset Meet #3 Saturday at Cooke Field. The meet was the team's tuneup for a stretch of four meets in southern California this upcoming week.

Making her debut this season was UH Rainbow Wahine volleyball standout Amber Kaufman, who won the high jump with a leap of 5-10.75 (1.80m). Kaufman competed on the track team last season but had not made any appearances this year until Saturday's Sunset Meet.

For the second time in as many weeks, a UH pole vaulter cleared four meters. Patricia Gauthier matched Jessica Custance's school record jump of 13-1.5 (4.00m), which she set at last week's Stanford Invitational. Gauthier previously held the school record of 12-11.75 (3.96m) before Custance topped that mark.

Annett Wichmann posted a pair of personal bests in the long jump (18-10.75/5.76m) and javelin (150-4/45.83m), the latter of which bested her modern day school record.

Ava Marie Cavaco threw a new PR in the hammer throw (166-6/50.75m) and in doing so became just the fourth UH athlete to top 50 meters. Meghan Weaver came close to breaking her school record in the shot put with a heave of 51-3 (15.62m)

The Rainbow Wahine begin a four-meet, five-day road trip which begins with the Mt. SAC Multi-Events April 16-17.
