Rainbow Wahine Cap Spring Break With All-Comers Meet

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team hosted the Spring Break Open Saturday at Cooke Field. The all-comers meet is one of six the team will host over the course of the indoor and outdoor seasons.

UH opened its outdoor season last week at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, Calif., but Saturday's Spring Break Open was the first outdoor competition for many of the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawai'i fielded five athletes in the pole vault competition and four each in the long jump, discus, and hammer throw events. Jessica Custance captured the pole vault after clearing 12-8.25 (3.87m). Alana Faagai won the discus with a throw of 139-4 (42.49m) while Ava Cavaco captured the hammer (155-3/47.32m).

Annett Wichmann competed in three events and won all three - long jump (18-3.25/5.57m), javelin (150-1/45.75m) and 100-meter hurdles (14.78).

The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Stanford Invitational this Friday and Saturday. At UH's last collegiate competition, the Hornet Invite, six athletes qualified for the NCAA West Regionals, one shy of the school-record seven athletes UH sent to last year's regional in Eugene, Ore.
