Robinson, Tausaga, Warwick Named NFCA/ Louisville Slugger All-Americans

NULL

University of Hawai`i pitcher/firstbaseman Kate Robinson and sophomore third baseman Clare Warwick were named second team All-American today by Louisville Slugger and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Senior first baseman/designated player Tyleen Tausaga earned third-team All-America honors.

Robinson, a junior from Honolulu, O`ahu (Kamehameha Schools), had a phenomenal year, both on the mound and at the plate. She earned a spot on the second-team in the "Utility/Pitcher" category. As a pitcher, Robinson was 17-1 this season, throwing 136.0 innings with 16 complete games, and eight shut-outs. She had a 2.01 ERA with only 23 walks to 101 strike outs this season while holding opponents to a .225 batting average. This season, she had several wins over Top 25 opponents including current No. 12 DePaul, No. 25 California, No. 14 Baylor, No. 25 Fresno State, No. 13 UCLA, and No. 1 Tennessee. DePaul, Baylor, and Tennesse all advanced to this week's Women's College World Series. Robinson was named the WAC Pitcher of the Year and was first-team all-WAC as a utility player.

On offense, Robinson had career highs in every offensive category. She broke the school's single season records in home runs with 19 and RBI with 72. She also had team highs in doubles (13) and slugging percentage (.733). Robinson was named WAC Hitter of the Week three times and Pitcher of the Week once this season.

Warwick, a native of Melba, Australia, was the model of consistency all season long at the plate. She earned an "at-large" spot on the second-team at third base. Warwick led the team this year with 81 hits and 55 runs scored, both were also career-highs. She was second on the team with a .375 batting average (81-for-216) and in doubles (10). Warwick also had a triple, five home runs and 22 RBI.

The 2007 WAC Player of the Year and four-time all-Western Athletic Conference selection, Tausaga, earned a place on the third-team by hitting career highs in average at .402 (74-for-184), runs scored (37), hits (74), home runs (15), and RBI (52). She became UH's all-time record leader in RBI with 156 and walks (76). She also finished her prolific career in the top three in batting average (.356), hits (239), doubles (40), and home runs (33).

It is the first time in school history that three Rainbow Wahine were named as NFCA All-American in the same year. There have only been four Hawai`i players to ever be recognized as NFCA All-Americans: Brooke Wilkins (1994-second-team, 1995-first-team); Tia Morenz (1996 and 1998 - second-team); Dana Degan (1997 and 2000 - second-team); and Stacey Porter (2003 - first team).
