Hawai`i third baseman
Clare Warwick was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 First Team announced Thursday. Warwick, a pre-kinesiology major from Melba, A.C.T. Australia, carries a 3.8 GPA and was named to the All-WAC first team earlier this week.
The third baseman has started all 54 games and finished the regular season with a league-high 72 hits and was second in the WAC with a .389 overall batting average and 50 runs scored. She has also been named a UH scholar-athlete both as a freshman and a sophomore.
To be elgible for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
By winning this award, Warwick is now eligible to be named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team.
Only five other Rainbow Wahine have ever been named to the Co-SIDA Academic All-District 8 team. Tracy Loo (1992), Joyce Lum (1998), Stacie Hirano (2002), Kate Judd (2002), and Tracie Uchima (2005) all made the prestigious list. The only Rainbow Wahine to ever become a Co-SIDA Academic All-American was Tracie Loo in 1992.
