LOS ANGELES - The University of Hawai`i women's track and field team participated in the first of three full-field meets this week with the Cal State Los Angeles' Twilight Open, Thursday night, at Jesse Owens Track. The Rainbow Wahine qualified one more individual to the NCAA West Regionals as junior
Meghan Weaver made standard in the shot put.
Weaver, who finished first in the competition, heaved 47-11.75 and qualified for regionals in the event for the third straight year. The London, Ontario native, became the fifth UH athlete to qualify for the regionals this season.
Freshman Brittani Daniels posted personal bests in a pair of events at two different venues. Earlier in the day, she threw a lifetime best 139-11 in the hammer at the Azusa Pacific Invitational in Azusa, Calif. A few hours later, she competed in the discus at the Twilight Open and heaved 139-9. That event was won by senior Novelle Murray who threw 174-3.
A pair of UH athletes competed in the pole vault. Samantha Weaver and Jessica Trujillo both leaped 12-0 but Weaver won the competition based on number of attempts.
Earlier in the day, hepathletes Annett Wichmann and Mallory Gilbert posted personal best point totals in their respective competitions. Wichmann's total of 5,413 points will likely earn her a spot to the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
UH will next compete in the Azusa Pacific Invitational on Friday while the Mt. SAC Relays runs from Friday through Sunday.
