HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team dropped a 6-0 decision to Southeastern Conference and 17th-ranked Kentucky, Saturday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 3-10 while the No. 17 Wildcats won their seventh straight dual match to improve their record to 13-1.
Due to inclement weather, the dual match, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved to Saturday morning.
In singles play, UH lost all six singles matches. At No. 1, freshman Sophie Kobuch gave 87th-ranked Joelle Schwenk a tough second set before losing, 6-1, 6-3. Senior Kana Aikawa gave a valiant effort in her lost to Sarah Woestmann, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 court. At the No. 3 position, junior Chloe Bihag lost a heartbreaking three-set decision to Carolina Escamilla, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Senior Florence Wasko lost a tough match to Christine Johnston, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 6 court.
With the decision already decided, Kentucky and UH decided not to play doubles.
The Rainbow Wahine will next host fellow Western Athletic Conference foe San Jose State, Saturday, March 17. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
