Brennan Will Return To UH For Senior Season

NULL

HONOLULU - Colt Brennan announced his intention to stay and finish his senior season as quarterback for the University of Hawai'i Warrior football team at a press conference at the Stan Sheriff Center today.

"This was a difficult decision for me," Brennan said in front of a packed house at the Ed Wong Hospitality Suite. "One that will affect my immediate family and also my Warrior family here. The last two days has been a crazy experience. There is a great opportunity for me to enter the NFL Draft and potentially be a high draft pick. It's been a lifelong dream to play in the NFL. Clearly that is a reality based on what has transpired the last two seasons. I've been told by reliable sources that I could be drafted high in this year's draft. But that has not been my top consideration in making my decision. I took extra time to talk with Coach Jones and I respect him and his opinions. I feel like Coach Jones and the University of Hawai`i gave me opportunities at a time when others would not. I have been a part of something special the last two years with my teammates, and now, I have come to the conclusion that there's more I want to do at Hawai`i, so I have made the decision to finish out my senior season."

Brennan broke 12 and tied four NCAA passing and total offense records as a junior in 2006. He also broke 10 Western Athletic Conference records, and broke 23 and tied one school record last season.

The Irvine, Calif., native was named Second-Team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, WAC Offensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-WAC, and the winner of the Sammy Baugh Award, presented to the nation's top passer by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.

He led the Warriors to an 11-3 record and the school's first Top 25 ranking since 1993. He finished the season 406-of-559 passing for 5,549 yards and an NCAA record 58 touchdowns.

"I told Colt that he was going to be the first quarterback drafted in the NFL Draft," Warrior Head Coach June Jones said. "And for him to hear that and still come back says something about his character. I'm so proud of him. He's a great player, but I'm more proud of the way he has handled himself through everything. All the wins and losses, he stayed right there next to his teammates, and that's what it's all about. He understands that this game is not about one person. It's about the guy next to you. I'm obviously glad he is coming back, not just for our team, but for the University and for the entire State."
