Annett Wichmann set a new day one school record in the heptathlon at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Wednesday, at Cooke Field. The Jena, Germany native scored 3,208 points and currently stands in second place behind leader Lacy Hulbert of Utah State (3,323).
Wichmann broke the previous mark of 3,193 points, which she set earlier this season. On Wednesday, Wichmann threw a personal best 45-8.5 in the shot put, the day's best mark. She also finished second in the 100m hurdles (14.81), third in the high jump (5-5.25), and fourth in the 200m (26.59).
Also participating in the event was sophomore Mallory Gilbert. The Clovis, Calif., native is in fifth place with a personal best total of 2,689 points. Gilbert also placed second in the high jump with a PR 5-7.75, just missing the NCAA regional qualifying mark. In the other events, she placed seventh in the 100m hurdles (15.97) and shot put (33-0.25), and ninth in the 200m (28.93).
The heptathlon concludes on Thursday. The rest of the Rainbow Wahine track team will participate in individual and relay events on Friday and Saturday.
