WALNUT, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team finished day two of the rain-soaked Mt. SAC Relays, Friday, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College. Temperature at the stadium was in the 50s which forced many of the athletes to post mediocre marks.
Despite the poor conditions, a pair of Rainbow Wahine had record performances in the 400m hurdles. Freshman Thalia Amanakis ran a season-best 1:03.87 to take 11th place, while sophomore Candace Rosenthal clocked in with a personal best 1:06.36.
In the shot put, sophomore Meghan Weaver placed second with a throw of 43-7.25. Freshman Nicole Awaa and sophomore Annett Wichmann finished seventh and eighth with throws of 42-0.75 and 41-9.75, respectively.
Sophomore Mallory Gilbert finished in a tie for eighth in the high jump after her leap of 5-5. Freshman Emily Sheppard withdrew after catching a virus, which has been spreading throughout the team and caused at least three athletes to pull out of events.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in UC San Diego's Triton Invitational, April 22-23.
