UH Track Finishes First Day Of Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team competed at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, Thursday, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College. The Rainbow Wahine were not at full strength as a virus struck the team overnight and forced one athlete to drop out of her event.

In addition, sophomore Annett Wichmann, who was leading after day one of the California Invitational Multi-Events heptathlon, was forced to withdraw.

One day after qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in the pole vault at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight Open, sophomore Patricia Gauthier made standard again with a jump of 12-5.5 to finish in a tie for third. Junior Tiara Krismunando matched her personal best with a jump of 11-11.75, which tied for ninth. Freshman Samantha Weaver had a new season best jump of 11-5.75 while freshman Jessica Trujillo also cleared 11-5.75.

In the discus, freshman Nicole Awaa finished in 13th place with a throw of 137-7 while sophomore Meghan Weaver took 18th after her heave of 136-2.

In the 1500m, sophomore Chantelle Laan clocked in at 4:42.00 to finish in 28th place.

The Mt. SAC Relays continues on Friday. Some members of the Rainbow Wahine will also compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Friday.
