LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Sophomore Meghan Weaver led the Hawai`i women's track and field team to a strong showing at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight Open, Wednesday, at Jesse Owens Track. The London, Ontario native posted NCAA Regional qualifying marks in both the discus and shot put.

In addition to Weaver, sophomore Patricia Gauthier made standard in the pole vault. Overall, the Rainbow Wahine had three NCAA Regional qualifiers, four first place finishes and set five personal best marks.

Weaver's throw of 156'4" in the discus cleared her previous best by five feet and earned her top honors in the event. Later in the day, Weaver participated in the shot put, her primary event, and threw 47'8" to take second place. As a freshman last season, Weaver qualified for the Regionals in the shot put.

Gauthier leaped 12'5"1/2 to win the pole vault and earned her second consecutive regional qualifying mark in the event.

Other first place finishers for UH were freshman Emily Sheppard in the high jump (5'5"3/4) and sophomore Chantelle Laan in the 800m (2:17.42), the latter of which was a new personal best. Sophomore Sharlene Carillo knocked two seconds off of her PR in the 800m to finish behind Laan.
