STANFORD, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team was in action on the final day of the Nike Stanford Invitational, Saturday, at Cobb Track and Angell Field. The two-day event featured top athletes from the collegiate and high school ranks.
A pair of UH athletes finished one and two in the Section "B" of the high jump. Freshman Emily Sheppard won the event, jumping 5-7.75, the third highest distance overall on the day. Sophomore Mallory Gilbert tied for second at 5-3.75.
Sophomore Meghan Weaver placed eighth in the top section of the shot put, throwing 46-4.75. Although she just missed the NCAA Regional qualifying standard, Weaver had another solid performance after a third-place showing in the Section "B" of the hammer on Friday, in which she threw a personal best 164-0.
Also competing on Saturday was sophomore Annett Wichmann. The Jena, Germany native tied for fifth place in Section "B" of the triple jump with a leap of 36-6.75. Wichmann also competed in the javelin on Friday, placing 10th in Section "B" with a throw of 113-8.
The Rainbow Wahine return to the islands where they will host the eighth of nine Sunset Meets at Cooke Field, Saturday, April 8.
