UH Track Completes Day 1 of Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team completed the first day of the rain-soaked Nike Stanford Invitational, Friday, at Cobb Track and Angell Field. The two-day extravaganza features more than 4,000 collegiate, post-collegiate, and high school athletes.

A number of Rainbow Wahine set new personal best marks on Friday. Sophomore Chantelle Laan posted a new PB in the 1500m, clocking in at 4:38.80 and chopping four seconds off her previous best.

In the hammer throw, a pair of Rainbow Wahine set new career highs. Sophomore Meghan Weaver threw 164-0, eclipsing her previous high by two and a half feet, while taking third place in the "B" Section. Junior Kuulei Karratti heaved 161-2, beating her best by six feet.

In addition, junior Patricia Gauthier leaped 12-0 in the pole vault, winning the "B" Section of the pole vault.

The meet concludes on Saturday with another full day of events.
