HONOLULU - Jeff Reinebold has been hired as the newest member of the University of Hawai'i football coaching staff, Athletics Director Herman Frazier announced today. Reinebold, who served as a graduate assistant in 2005, replaces the vacancy left by defensive line coach Vantz Singletary who left for Tennessee-Chattanooga last month.
"We are fortunate to have Jeff on our staff," Jones said. "He brings energy and knowledge to our defensive line. It's going to be a smooth transition because he has already knows the system and the players after his one year as graduate assistant."
Reinebold, 48, has traveled the world coaching football, but is glad to be in Hawai`i.
"I'm honored to be on this staff," Reinebold said. "If you look at the history of the players who have come through here, especially on defense...guys like Larry Cole, the Noga family, Taase Faumui, Tom Tuinei...I feel a great responsibility to take the players of today and help them perform to the level and the precedence that has been set by those past players. It will be fun to take that on and I look forward to the opportunity."
Reinebold began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Western Montana College in 1981. Since then he has had several coaching jobs around the country including Montana and New Mexico.
Reinebold has also served on Candian Football League coaching staffs in British Columbia, Edmonton, Las Vegas, and Winnepeg, where he was the head coach. Most recently, from 1999-2004 he coached the Rhein Fire and Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe where he also served as the senior manager of international player development.
The native of South Bend, Ind., earned his bachelor's degree in general studies from Indiana University in 1981.
