Wichmann Finishes Third At Northridge Multi-Events

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - University of Hawai`i sophomore Annett Wichmann took third place in the heptathlon at the Northridge Open Multi-Events, Friday, at the Matador Track and Field Complex. Fellow Rainbow Wahine Mallory Gilbert finished ninth.

Wichmann totaled 4,940 points setting a new school record in the process. In the two-day competition, the Jena, Germany native, established four new school marks, event records for the high jump and shot put, and point totals for Day 1 and overall.

On Day 2 of the heptathlon, Wichmann placed third in the 800m (2:28.55), fourth in the javelin (111-4.50), and fifth in the long jump (17-4.50).

Sacramento State's Roshena Duree, the Day 1 leader, won the event with 5,142 points. Cal State Northridge's Lashana Verdon placed second (5,110).

Gilbert tallied 3,997 points with eighth place finishes in each Day 2 event. She ran 2:46.10 in the 800, jumped 16-6.5 in the long jump and threw 85-3.25 in the javelin.

The rest of the Rainbow Wahine will compete in the Northridge Relays on Saturday.
