Wichmann Second After First Day Of Northridge Multi-Events

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - University of Hawai`i sophomore Annett Wichmann is in second place in the heptathlon after the first day of the Northridge Open Multi-Events, Thursday, at the Matador Track and Field Complex. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine is sophomore Mallory Gilbert, who stands in ninth place.

Wichmann scored 3,034 points and trails Sacramento State's Roshena Duree by 51 points entering Day 2 of competition. The Jena, Germany native, posted new school records in winning both the high jump (5-6) and shot put (43-3.25) events. In addition, Wichmann set a new UH record for Day 1 point total. Wichmann also finished sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.68) and ninth in the 200m (27.02).

Gilbert totaled 2,521 points with third place in the high jump (5-3.75), seventh in the shot put (33-4.50), 11th in the 100m hurdles (16.32) and 18th in the 200m (29.13).

The heptathlon concludes on Friday. The rest of the Rainbow Wahine will compete in the Northridge Relays on Saturday.
