NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team captured three individual titles at the Northridge Spring Break Open, Wednesday, at the Matador Track and Field Complex. The meet was the first intercollegiate competition of the 2006 season for the Rainbow Wahine.
Junior Ashley Monfort won the 400m event with a season-best time of 57.68, edging Cal State Northridge's Julie Eze by one hundredth of a season. Monfort also ran a personal best in the 200m clocking in at 25.99 seconds.
Sophomore Mallory Gilbert took home the high jump title, tying a PB with leap of 5-7 (1.70m). Fellow newcomer Emily Sheppard completed the 1-2 finish for the Rainbow Wahine with a jump of 5-3 (1.60m).
Junior Patricia Gauthier captured the pole vault title with a jump of 12-4 (3.75m). Freshman Jessica Trujillo finished second (11-6, 3.50m) followed by freshman Samantha Weaver (11-0, 3.35m).
Sophomore Chantelle Laan posted a pair of personal bests in the 1500m (4:42.80) and the two-mile run (11:04).
Overall, the Rainbow Wahine set 23 season bests and nine personal best marks. In addition to the three first place finishes, UH athletes captured five second place and four third place finishes.
