Andreas Weber advanced to the semifinals on day three of the Wilson/ITA Northwest Region Championships Sunday at the Taube Tennis Center
Weber, the third-seeded player in the tournament, defeated fellow Rainbow Warrior teammate sophomore Sascha Heinemann by walkover due to an injury. Weber, a newcomer from Huenfeld, Germany, will play Washington's Alex Slovic, the tournament's top seeded player for a spot in the championship match on Monday.
In doubles play, senior Matt Seeberger and Weber beat Chris Rasmussen and Jeff Zeller of Stanford, 8-1 in the round of 16. Seeberger and Weber, the tournaments third-seed, were then upset in the quarterfinals by the 14th-seeded team of Derrick Drabble and Andy Kuharsky of Washington, 8-6. The sophomore duo of Jeff Fitch and Heinemann lost in the round of 16 to Cal Poly's Matt Baca and Kyle Roybal, 8-3.
In consolation singles play, freshman Spencer Mendoza dropped Cal Poly's Patrick Nelson, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
The tournament continues on Monday as Weber will compete for a spot in the championship of the singles main draw.
