HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team made their first showing at the Les Murakami Stadium an impressive one, winning the alumni game 15-1.
Richard Olsen pitched 4.2 innings, giving up just two hits with no runs for the victory. Former Rainbow Eugene Myers (1992-93) took the loss for the alumni.
Robbie Wilder had a good showing on offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Justin Frash went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI while Joseph Spiers, Kris Sanchez and Jonathon Hee both had two hits with three RBI.
Mark Rodrigues made his first start with the Rainbows after spending two years in the dugout with an elbow injury. He gave up just one run on two hits with two walks while striking out five in 4.1 innings pitched.
Hawai`i scored a run in the first on a single by Hee, then had two runs in the second, driven in by Spiers and Wilder, and another two in the third, driven in by Sanchez and Nathan Young. They then blew it open with a huge 10-run fourth inning. During the inning, Frash and Wilder had two hits apiece.
The Rainbows officially start the season on Wednesday, Feb. 1, vs. San Diego State, at 6:35 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
