HONOLULU - In preparation for its final road trip of the regular season, the Hawai`i women's track and field team hosted the second day of the All-Comers #8 and UH Heptathlon, Tuesday night, at Cooke Field. Three more stadium records fell bringing the total for the two-day meet to five established by the Rainbow Wahine.
Junior Novelle Murray, sophomore Patricia Gauthier, and sophomore Kelly Young set new Cooke Field standards in the hammer throw, pole vault, and 800m, respectively. In addition, Gauthier's and Young's marks broke existing school records.
Young eclipsed her own school and Cooke Field record in the 800m, finishing in 2:06.53. Her previous school record of 2:06.87 was set at last year's NCAA West Regionals. The stadium record - which Young set last season (2:07.07) - was her second in as many nights as the sophomore broke the 600m record on Monday. In addition, Young just missed her personal best in the 400m by one-hundredth of a second (56.68).
In the pole vault, Gauthier jumped 3.81m (12-6), setting both a Cooke Field and UH record. Earlier this season at the All-Comers #6, the Ottawa native, broke UCLA's Chelsea Johnson's stadium record (3.66m). Twice this month, she set the school mark with an NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 3.80m.
Murray started the day in the hammer throw cage by heaving a record 54.86m (180-0), outdistancing the previous mark (54.05m), which she set at the All-Comers #5. Freshman Meghan Weaver threw a lifetime best 46.08m (151-2) to finish second.
Sophomore Candace Rosenthal ran season-bests in the 100m and 400m with times of 13.08 seconds and 1:01.30, respectively.
The first night of the All-Comers #8/Heptathlon, produced Cooke Field records in the 600m and 1500m events.
The Rainbow Wahine head to Los Angeles, where they will participate in the Northridge Invitational, Saturday, May 7.
