Seven Records Fall On Day 1 Of All-Comers 8/Heptathlon

HONOLULU - The Hawai`i women's track and field team hosted its final All-Comers meet of the 2005 season, Monday night, at Cooke Field. Two stadium records and five lifetime bests were established on the first of the two-day meet.

Sophomore Dana Buchanan broke a 24-year old Cooke Field record in the 1500m with a time of 4:30.14. The Beachburg, Ontario native, eclipsed the previous mark of 4:30.54 set by Villanova's Susan Shea in 1981. Buchanan now owns three Cooke Field records (1000m, 1500m, and mile).

In the same event, sophomore Heather Scott and sophomore Sheena Thain set personal bests with times of 4:40.43 and 4:47.36, respectively. Thain's mark smashed her previous lifetime best by nine seconds.

Sophomore Kelly Young set a new Cooke Field record in the 600m. The Lisarow, NSW, Australia native, smashed her own stadium record finishing in a time of 1:30.71. Earlier this season, Young set the previous mark of 1:33.08 during the Feb. 5 All-Comers meet.

Sophomore Jessica Rohr set a personal best in the 400m hurdles clocking in at 1:03.25 while freshman Candace Rosenthal crossed the finish line in 1:06.64, cutting a second off of her personal best.

The All-Comers #8 and UH Heptathlon continues on Tuesday. Action begins at 4:00 p.m. with the field events. The heptathlon events begins at 5:30 p.m.
