Weaver Qualifies For NCAA Regionals In Shot Put

AZUSA, Calif. - Freshman Meghan Weaver recorded an NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 14.56m in the shot put, Saturday, at the Meet of Champions hosted by Azusa Pacific. Weaver is the fourth Rainbow Wahine to qualify for the Regionals this season following sophomore Kelly Young (800m) Novelle Murray (discus) and Patricia Gauthier (pole vault), who posted qualifying marks earlier this season.

Weaver finished second in the shot put with her lifetime best throw and fifth in the discus with a throw of 42.17m. Murray also competed in both events and placed fourth in the shot put (12.63m) and second in the discus (51.28).

In other action around the track, junior Tasha Monroe ran a lifetime best 55.29 seconds to finish second in the 400m dash. Monroe's time ranks fifth all-time in UH history. Japan's Asami Tanno won the event in 54.09 seconds.

In the 800m run, sophomore Dana Buchanan was runner-up to San Diego State's Lisa Naucler, crossing the finish line in 2:12.58. Freshman Sabrina Reeve finished third in the 1500m run with a time of 4:38.38. Sophomore Haunani Bertelmann posted a fifth place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.00.
