LOS ANGELES - Three University of Hawai`i track athletes competed in the hammer throw on the first day of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, hosted by UCLA, Thursday, at Drake Stadium. Senior 
Alexis Fredrick and sophomore 
Ku'ulei Karratti threw lifetime best distances while junior 
Novelle Murray had the second farthest mark of her career.
	Fredrick finished eighth after throwing 48.30m while Karratti tossed 45.27m. Each topped their previous highs of 43.62m and 40.85m, respectively, set at the Northridge Invitational in March. 
	Murray was UH's top finisher at seventh with a throw of 50.65m , just missing her personal-best mark of 51.15m set at the Stanford Invitational last month.
	Defending NCAA champion Jessica Cosby of UCLA captured first after tossing 63.54m. Stanford's Sarah Hopping finished second at 56.21.
The meet continues through the weekend. On Friday, field events begin at 11:00 a.m. while track events start at 1:30 p.m. The distance carnival begins at 6:00 p.m.
