DES MOINES, Iowa - On the first full day of competition at the 96th Drake Relays, the Hawai`i women's track and field team broke the school record in the distance medley relay Friday, at Drake Stadium.
	The UH distance medley team clocked in at 11:31.57 to finish sixth among 20 teams. The previous school record was 11:39.26 set at last year's Drake Relays. This year's team was made up of sophomore Kelly Young, junior Tasha Monroe, sophomore Heather Scott, and sophomore Dana Buchanan. Michigan, the 2005 NCAA Indoor champions, won the event with a time of 11:10.80.
	Each of the four UH athletes recorded lifetime bests in their events including Monroe's blistering 52.8 seconds in the 400m leg. Scott, who was a last minute replacement for the ailing Sabrina Reeve, checked in with a time of 2:19 in the 800m leg. Young ran 3:28 in the 1200m while Buchanan anchored with a 4:50 time in the 1600m. 
	Young also participated in the 800m run and finished second with a time of 2:08.72, marking the fifth time this year she surpassed the NCAA Regional qualifying mark. Young has also qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 400m hurdles. Winning the event in 2:07.88 was Oklahoma Baptist's Kyta Ferrer.
	Sophomore Jessica Rohr competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing the course in 1:03.87, and in the process setting a personal best mark. Alabama's Beau Walker (56.48) led a group of 10 athletes who charted NCAA Regional qualifying standards.
	The event concludes on Saturday. Expected to compete for the Rainbow Wahine are Buchanan (1500m), the 1600m sprint relay team, and the 4x800 relay team. In addition, a split squad is entered at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif.
