LONG BEACH, Calif. - Six different Hawai`i women's track and field team members posted personal bests in their events at the Springco-Long Beach Invitational, Saturday, at Jack Rose Track. In addition, sophomore
Patricia Gauthier shared top honors in the pole vault with Long Beach State's Jill Reynolds after a leap of 3.65m (11-11.75).
In the 100m, Gauthier and sophomore Ku'ulei Karratti established personal bests with times of 12.61 and 12.72, respectively. Sophomore Kelly Young set her career-high in the 400m with a time of 56.67 seconds. Sophomore Sheena Thain bettered her time in the 800m (2:22.93) which she broke at Friday's Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Freshman Bianca DeBartolo tied her previous high with a wind-aided time 15.13 seconds in the 100m hurdles. Sophomore Haunani Bertelmann set a personal best in the 400m hurdles, finishing 10th at 1:06.50.
The Rainbow Wahine also recorded seven more Top 10 finishes including junior Novelle Murray, who placed third in the discus with a toss of 50.05m (164-2), the seventh time she eclipsed the NCAA Regional standard. Murray also placed ninth in the shot put (12.19m, 40-0).
Junior Tasha Monroe and freshman Meghan Weaver finished seventh in the 400m (55.38) and discus (41.96m, 137-8), respectively. Sophomore Dana Buchanan placed ninth in the 800m (2:11.49). Bertelmann and DeBartolo just broke into the Top 10 in the 400m hurdles (10th, 1:06.50) and 100m hurdles (10th, 15.13).
The Rainbow Wahine conclude their 12-day road trip at the Mt. SAC Relays on Sunday. Only four athletes will participate (Weaver - shot put, Young - 400m hurdles, Jessica Rohr - 400m hurdles, and Monroe - 100m and 200m).
