Mt. SAC Relays Produces Another UH NCAA Regional Qualifier

WALNUT, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team was well represented on Day 1 of the Mt. SAC Relays, Friday, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio Community College. Junior Tasha Monroe became the fifth Rainbow Wahine to qualify for the NCAA West Regionals with a leap of 5.99m (19-8) in the long jump.

Rice's Funmi Jimoh (6.00m) won the event, edging Monroe by less than an inch. Monroe's mark was her season-high. The other Rainbow Wahine who already qualified for the Regionals held later this season are Kelly Young (800m), Novelle Murray (discus), Patricia Gauthier (pole vault) and Meghan Weaver (shot put).

In addition to Monroe, two other Rainbow Wahine won events at the prestigious meet that uses the moniker "Where the World's Best Athletes Compete." Young captured the 800m race by finishing the distance in 2:07.76, exceeding the NCAA Regional qualifying mark for the second time this season.

Murray won the discus title with a throw of 52.20m, the sixth time this season she eclipsed the NCAA Regional standard. Weaver finished fourth with a throw of 45.93m.

Gauthier tied for fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 3.65m. Sophomore Dana Buchanan placed eighth in the 1500m (4:31.82) and freshman Sabrina Reeve finished 23rd (4:40.45).

The Rainbow Wahine split their squad on Friday and also competed in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
