Murray Leads UH Contingent At Stanford Invite

STANFORD, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team continued its top showing at the 31st Stanford Invitational, Saturday, at Cobb Track & Angell Field. Junior Novelle Murray, the two-time defending Western Athletic Conference champion in the discus, finished third in the discus finals with a personal-best throw of 51.98m, the second farthest distance in Rainbow Wahine history and longest in the WAC this season.

In addition, sophomore Kelly Young placed fourth in the 800m finals (2:07.95), finishing .46 seconds out of bronze. Her time was the second fastest 800m time in school history and also was the fastest in the WAC this season.

Junior Tasha Monroe finished fifth in her 200m heat (25.17), and placed 11th overall. Freshman Meghan Weaver threw 13.93m in the shot put finals to claim sixth and sophomore Dana Buchanan finished 20th in the 1500m finals (4:31.24), posting the fastest time in the WAC this season.

The two-day meet featured more than 4,000 high school and college athletes, including top track programs from Stanford, California, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Brigham Young, and Iowa. Last year's meet produced more than 200 NCAA Regional and Division I automatic qualifiers.

The Rainbow Wahine return to action Saturday, April 2, at the All-Comers Meet #7 at Cooke Field.
