STANFORD, Calif. - The Hawai`i women's track and field team made a name for themselves on the first day of the 31st Stanford Invitational, Friday, at Cobb Track and Angell Field. Sophomores

Dana Buchanan broke meet records in their respective track events while junior
Novelle Murray took top honors in the hammer throw prelims.
Young finished the 1500m prelims with a time of 4:30.43, breaking the previous meet record of 4:30.78 set by Stephanie Hart of Southern Utah last year. Buchanan had the day's third best 800m run, finishing in a time of 2:11.74. She along with four other runners topped the previous meet record of 2:12.53 set by Ayishetu Inusch of Utah Valley State last year.
In the hammer throw, Murray posted the day's best mark of 51.15m, the second longest distance in school history. Also competing in the event was freshman Meghan Weaver, who finished sixth at 45.71m.
Junior Tasha Monroe competed in two events, the 100m and long jump. Monroe finished 14th in the 100m (12.29), just missing Saturday's finals by .11 seconds. In the long jump, Monroe finished seventh with a jump of 5.78m.
The two-day meet features more than 4,000 high school and college athletes, including top track programs from Stanford, California, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Brigham Young, and Iowa. Last year's meet produced more than 200 NCAA Regional and Division I automatic qualifiers.
The Stanford Invitational concludes on Saturday.
