HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's swimming and diving squad will be represented this Friday as ESPN2 airs its telecast of the 2005 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from Purdue at 9 a.m. HST.
ESPN2's coverage will be only of the evening finals from the three-day meet last 90 minutes.
UH divers QiongJie Huang (1M & 3M springboard) and Rui Wang (3M springboard & platform) will be highlighted during the diving segments. Also, Huang was interviewed by ESPN2 after becoming UH's first-ever NCAA diving champion.
Freshman Melanie Schlanger made it to the 100-yard freestyle consolation finals placing 15th. While the UH 200-yard freestyle relay team also took 15th place.
The 800 Free Relay team also picked up points placing 16th with a time of 7:23.86. The relay was comprised of Yan Chen, Nicole Mackey, Schlanger, and Cassie Hunt.
As a team, Hawai`i placed 16th overall with 68 points. Georgia won the overall title followed by Auburn and Arizona.
