RedHawks Down Rainbow Wahine, 5-0

HONOLULU - Miami scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to down Hawai'i, 5-0, in the first game of a double header in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational Saturday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Miami hurler Courtney Salmon picked up her third win and second shut-out of the Tournament.

UH pitcher Paula Blanning threw five innings of shut-out ball. Only three RedHawks were able to get the ball out of the infield and none had an extra-base hit. She struck out three and walked none. But in the sixth inning, Blanning, along with Hawai'i pitcher Shannon Tabion, Miami came alive, scoring the five runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batter, which was more than enough to get the win.

For Hawai'i, Tracie Uchima went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the offense. Denise Dahlberg was the only other Rainbow Wahine with a hit, a double to left-centerfield.

Salmon threw the complete game, giving up only four hits while walking one and fanning nine batters. Jackie Poggendorf went 3-for-4 for the game with one RBI. Sarah Buffie went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Hawai'i will face Loyola Marymount in the last game of day three of the tournament.

TWCPE 9, Eastern Illinois 2
TWCPE (Tokyo Women's College of Physical Education) exploded for 13 hits en route to a 9-2 victory over the Panthers of Eastern Illinois (3-10). Tokyo is now 2-2 for the tournament and EIU fell to 0-4.

Tojotai was led by several players who had multiple-hits. Kaori Sakai was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI; Miho Hasegawa sent 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI; Aya Ishida had a two-run home run; and Kumi Nakano was 4-4 with a single, two doubles, and a triple with five RBI.

Cassandra North led the Panthers offense. She went' 2-3 with a two-run double. Chelsea Adams was also 2-3.

Tokyo pitchers Mika Kamagata and Kanako Mizukami held the Panthers down, spacing five hits, walking two and striking out one.

A tight game through seven, TWCPE (Tokyo) pulled away, scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Toreros 5-1. San Diego's

For TWCPE in the eighth, they scored the four runs on five hits including a two run single by Chisato Ogata, and a double that drove in another run by Kumi Nakano. For the game, Nakano went 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Ogata was 2-3 with one run scored and three RBI; and Naomi Kobayashi was 3-3 with one run scored.

On the mound for Tokyo, a trio of pitchers (Asami Ozawa, Ryoko Tateishi, and Yuko Nakamura) held the Toreros to five hits with two walks and three strike outs. For San Diego, Gina McFarland threw seven strong innings, but took the loss after giving up the runs in the last inning.

San Diego 0, Winthrop 3
Winthrop pitcher Kellie Johnson threw a three-hit shut-out of the San Diego Toreros (8-10). Johnson scattered three hits, walked one and struck out seven in the complete game victory.

The Eagles' offense scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings. Kjerstie Johnson went 2-2 with an RBI; Laura Hill was 2-3 with a double and a run scored; and Caryn Little was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

For the Toreros, Kathleen Bonja led the offense, going 2-3 with a double.
