Honolulu - The Rainbow Wahine softball team defeated the feisty Fighting Camels from Campbell, 8-2 in the feature game of the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament's day two.
Shannon Tabion got the win, throwing a complete game, holding Campbell scoreless through the first five innings. She struck out seven and walked none. The offense gave her ample support, scoring two runs in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings.
Hawaii scored right off the bat in the top of the first. Tracie Uchima led the game off with a single. She stole second, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a single to center off the bat of Denise Dahlberg. Dahlberg later scored off a sacrifice fly by Tausaga.
UH added to their lead in the third, scoring another two runs. Tara Harbert, who was 3-3 on the night and scored three runs, led the inning off on a bunt single to the pitcher. Kaulana Gould's single drove in Harbert, and Tausaga got her second RBI of the night when she smacked a double to the outfield. Hawaii extended its lead to six in the fourth inning when both Ashley Ruff and Harbert scored unearned runs after each reaching safely on singles.
In the top of the sixth, Holly Harris hit a home run over the centerfield fence to trim Hawai'i's lead to 6-2. She also had a double in the first inning and had two RBI for the game.
UH answered back with two more runs in the bottom of the frame. Harbert hit a triple to rightfield and scored on the throwing error by the rightfielder. Later, Gould scored off a Dahlberg triple to centerfield.
Hawaii will play a doubleheader tomorrow, March 11. First at 5pm is Nevada and at 7pm UH will face Virginia.

Virginia 1, Notre Dame 3
In the first game of the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament's day two, Notre Dame held off Virginia, winning 3-1.
Notre Dame scored first in the bottom of the second. They had a big rally brewing, with a double, two singles and a fielder's choice in the inning, but two baserunning miscues ran them out of the inning with only one run scored. Liz Hartmann hit a double to start the rally that hit two-thirds up the fence.
The Fighting Irish extended their lead in the third with two more runs. Megan Ciolli had a triple that scored Kellie Middleton who had an infield hit earlier in the inning. Ciolli eventually scored on a passed ball.
Notre Dame pitcher Steffany Stenglein pitched five-innings of no-hit ball before the Cavaliers led off the top of the sixth with two singles. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Stenglein then hit the next batter, Jenn Winn to load the bases. Designated player Sara Larquier then hit a sacrifice fly to rightfield to score Jessica Taylor from third. Stenglein was then lifted for Carrie Wisen who got a ground out to end the inning.

Nevada 7, Virginia 6
After leading 6-0, the Nevada Wolfpack (8-7) hung on to a 7-6 win over the Virginia Cavaliers (5-14). Tiffany Hoeft combined with Robyn Ford-Feitz and Jordan McPerson combined for the win. Nevada gave up six runs on 13 hits, with one strike out and _ no walks. For the Cavaliers, the combination of Coty Tolar, Erin Horn, and Whitney Holstun gave up seven runs on 10 hits, seven strike outs and two walks.
Lindsay Hall hit a grand slam home run in the top of the third to break a scoreless tie.
In the top of the sixth, Virginia's bats came to life. The `Hoos scored four runs on four straight hits on two outs. Sara Larquier hit a two-run home run to left field and pinch hitter Lara Rodriguez had a run-scoring double to leftfield and later scored on a fielding error by the Nevada second baseman.
Nevada's Brittany Lorenzen sent a shot over the fence for what would prove to be the winning run in the top of the sixth.
The Cavaliers fought hard until the end, adding another two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Virginia had five singles in the inning with a fielder's choice. The bases were loaded with the winning run on second when the `Hoos induced a grounder for the last out.

Campbell 5, Nevada 1
Campbell's offense was clutch, scoring in the first, third, and fifth innings to defeat the Wofpack of Nevada. Lexi Meyers threw a complete game, spacing four hits and striking out seven while walking only one.
Chelsea Gates led the Fighting Camels, going 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Jessica Huffman was 2-4 with a run scored, and Amy Anderson was 2-4 with a run scored.
Nevada's Jiliane Hartfiel went 2-3 with a run scored to lead the Wolfpack.
