Rainbow Wahine Capture Bryson Regatta

STANFORD, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Rainbow Wahine sailing team kicked of the 2005 fall campaign in fine fashion, winning the Bryson Regatta hosted by Stanford University, Oct. 1-2.

UH entered the second day of action in a dogfight with host Stanford. The Rainbow Wahine trailed the Cardinal by three points as the two teams distanced themselves from the field of eight after the first 10 races. The second day brought heavy winds as six more races were completed in both the "A" and "B" divisions. By day's end Hawaii tied Stanford with 78 points. The Rainbow Wahine won the tiebreaker of most first place finishes in the fleet racing competition. Sophomores Tinja Anderson-Mitterling and Becky Mabardy were tops in the "A" division with nine first-place finishes. Junior Shandy Buckley and sophomore transfer Crystal Bronte added six more for the Rainbow Wahine in the "B" division.

Next up for UH is the Stoney Burke Intersectional, held Oct. 8-9 in San Francisco, Calif.
