Saturday's Results
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - University of Hawai`i middle distance runner Kelly Young broke her own school record in the 800m run today at the 2004 NCAA Western Regional at Matador Track on the campus of Cal State Northridge.
Young clocked a time of two minutes and 6.87 seconds, placing sixth in today's finals of the 800m run. She picked up three points for the Rainbow Wahine, which is the first time UH has scored a point in the regional.
The Top 5 advances on to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, in two weeks.
Teammate Dana Buchanan was the only other UH participant today as she placed 11th in the finals of the 1500m run (4:32.20).
Young and Buchanan were the only two in today's finals. Tasha Monroe made it to the finals yesterday in the long jump finishing in 9th place overall, while Novelle Murray out did her performance from a year ago in the discus by 10 meters as she came in 11th place.
"We are very pleased with the results this weekend by all four of the participants," head coach Carmyn James said. "We had three ladies make the finals and the other substantially outperformed her effort from a year ago."
