HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i middle distance runner Kelly Young broke her own school record in the 800m run and established a new Cooke Field standard with another NCAA qualifying time of two minutes and 7.07 seconds tonight in the final Sunset Series Meet #4 at Cooke Field.

Young, who has already qualified in three events -- 800m run, 1500m run, and 400m hurdles -- will strictly focus her attention only on the 800m run at next week's NCAA West Regional at Cal State Northridge. If she finishes in the Top 5 in the event, she moves on to the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas, June 9-12.

With UH concluding its spring semester last week with finals, it was a small attended twi-night All-Comers meet.

Tonight concludes the UH home track and field schedule for spring 2004.

Four UH women -- Young (800m run), Dana Buchanan (800m run, 1500m run), Tasha Monroe (long jump), and Novelle Murray (discus) -- will all compete at the upcoming NCAA West Regional at Cal State Northridge May 28-29.

The four ladies will be working out at UH on the mornings of Monday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 25, between the hours of 8 a.m and noon before departing for Los Angeles on Wednesday.
