Day 2 of WAC Championships Suspended

HOUSTON - Due to severe weather in the Houston area, Day 2 of the 2004 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Rice Track/Soccer Stadium has been suspended.

The final three events of the heptathlon will begin at 9 am on Friday. The remainder of the decathlon has been cancelled with the results after five events providing the placing towards team scoring.

Rice's Ruthann Gairdner led after Day 1 of the heptathlon with 3,193 points. Hawai`i's Patricia Gauthier is the top Rainbow Wahine in seventh place with 2,473 points. UH's Amanda Page is 11th (2,326) and Lana Phillips is 12th (2,309).

Weather permitting, the meet will continue as scheduled with the women's hammer throw starting at 2:30 pm and the prelims of the 1500 opening the running events at 5 pm. The championships continue through Saturday.
