HONOLULU - Fresno State homered six times en route to a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Hawai`i tonight at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The Bulldogs' (35-12, 8-0 WAC) Jamie Southern pitched two complete-game wins over the Rainbow Wahine (22-21, 4-2 WAC).

Fresno State won the first game by a score of 7-0. FSU opened up the first inning with three-straight singles off UH starter Melissa Coogan (8-11) to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs added two more in the third as Southern knocked a one-out single and came home on Nicole Willis' two-run shot to center.

Four more runs by FSU in the fourth inning coming on a three-run dinger by Shasta Lewis to center and a solo shot by Christina Clark, chases Coogan as Paula Blanning entered in relief and tossed the final 3.2 innings.

In the second game, the Bulldogs added one run on a solo homer by Mitzi Ing in the second inning and two more in the third on Clark's homer driving in Lewis who walked.

FSU tacked on another run in the top of the fifth on Willis' RBI double to left center.

UH closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth scoring twice. The Rainbow Wahine loaded the bases with a single by Noelle Izumi, Justina Kahaku reached on an error by Southern, and Tracie Uchima reached on a fielder's choice to the circle when Southern looked at third and no one was there and then threw to second where her second baseman was no where near the bag. April Crowell's single to right scored Izumi, but the throw in from the outfield got away from the catcher allowing Kahaku to score.

Fresno State put the game out of reach in the seventh adding five more runs to give the Bulldogs a 9-2 victory.

UH's Shannon Tabion (14-7) suffered the loss in game two going all the way giving up 11 hits while striking out three and walking three.

FSU's Southern, who won both games, improves to 24-5 on the season allowing only eight hits and one earned run on the night.

The two teams complete the four-game league series Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
