RENO, Nev. - The University of Hawai`i (24-29, 6-10 WAC) softball dropped a pair of Western Athletic Conference games today at Nevada (32-24, 7-7 WAC). The losses put them eight games out with eight remaining on the schedule behind front-running Fresno State (13-1 in WAC).

In Game One, UH lost a heartbreaking 4-3, 14-inning marathon. The game ended tied at two apiece after the regulation seven innings and stayed that way until the 14th when UH manufactured a run, only to have the Wolf Pack come up with two in the bottom half of the inning.

In the 14th, UH's Tara Harbert and Tracie Uchima both singled and were moved up on Denise Dahlberg's sacrifice bunt. Harbert was then cut down at the plate trying to score on April Crowell's grounder to short. Crowell then stole second and Uchima scored on Tyleen Tausaga's single.

In the bottom of the 14th, Nevada's Stacy Mueller led off with a single and moved to second on Jamie Waldron's walk. Jiliane Hartfiel's grounder to second was mishandled by UH second baseman Noelle Izumi allowing Mueller to tie it up at three apiece. Waldron then scored the game-winner on Candice Rainwater's RBI single.

In Game Two, Nevada's Tiffany Hoeft shutout the Rainbow Wahine, 3-0, on a two-hitter. The Wolf Pack scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning. After Melissa Coogan (9-16) retired the first two batters, Rainwater singled and scored on Carrie Mackey's double. Cindy Elkins walked and both runners moved up a base on Kristin Stith's single. Then Sonia Rojo hit a ball that first baseman Tausaga misplayed for a two-run error allowing both Elkins and Mackey to score.

UH Coogan went all 19 innings today suffering the losses in both games. Nevada's Rainwater (11-7) picked up the win in game one, while Hoeft (10-8) notched the victory in game two.

UH completed the eight-game road trip to Tulsa and Nevada going a combined 1-7. The Rainbow Wahine close out its home schedule next week with two doubleheaders against Louisiana Tech April 30 (5 p.m.) and May 1 (3 p.m.) at the RWSS.
