TULSA, Okla. - The University of Hawai`i softball team dropped both ends of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader today at Tulsa's Donna J. Hardesty Softball Complex by scores of 2-1 and 5-4.

In the top of the first inning in game one, Denise Dahlberg clubbed a solo home run, her team-leading seventh, to left field to give the Rainbow Wahine a short-lived 1-0 lead off TU starter Ami Day (9-7).

Tulsa took the lead in their half of the first scoring twice off UH starting pitcher Melissa Coogan (8-14). Heather Hiar led off with an infield single to second. Katie Torres then drew a one-out walk moving Hiar to second where she scored on Kelly Miller's double to left center. Stephanie Sliepen then hit a Texas League single between the shortstop and left fielder as both Torres at third and Miller at second held their ground. Torres then came home on Julie Schafer's single to left to cap the scoring for both teams.

Coogan went the distance spacing nine hits while striking out eight and walking two. TU's Day picked up the win and Maren Genow notched her fifth save of the season, second in two games against UH. Day allowed a pair of lead-off singles to start the seventh before Genow came on and retired the next three batters.

In game two, UH got on the board first in the top of the third inning as Tracie Uchima reached on an infield single to second and moved to third on Dahlberg's double down the left field line. Both runners came home on April Crowell's two-run single to center.

Tulsa cut the lead to one run in their half of the third as Hiar led off with a single to center, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, went to third on a ground out to short, and scored on Torres' double to right center.

The Golden Hurricane took the lead for good in the fourth as Schafer singled to right center, was bunted to second, and scored on Angela Osbon's two-run shot to left off UH starter Shannon Tabion (14-8). Tabion lasted but four innings with Coogan coming on to start the fifth.

However, Coogan was not sharp issuing a single and three walks to force in the first run of the inning. The other run for TU came on a fielder's choice.

The Rainbow Wahine sliced into the lead in the top of the seventh when both Ashley Ruff and Stacey Ritter hit back-to-back home runs on the first two pitches chasing TU starter Genow (18-3). Julie Fennell entered from the bullpen and promptly retired the final three batters to preserve the 5-4 victory and notch her second save of the season.

The four-game series sweep by Golden Hurricane was its first and marked its first home wins against UH since joining the WAC in 1997.

Hawai`i falls to 23-26 on the season and 5-7 in the WAC, while Tulsa improves to 38-15 and 11-3. UH concludes its eight-game road trip with a pair of WAC doubleheaders at Nevada April 22 and 24.
