Monroe Leaps to First-Place Finish at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - Junior Tasha Monroe captured first place today in the women's open long jump event, which is a part of the Mt. San Antonio Community College Relays held at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Monroe posted a leap of 5.97m (19-07.00) taking first over two women from the University of Wisconsin - Melissa Talbot (5.89m) and Christina Taylor (5.86m).

The jump by Monroe was not her personal best, which was recorded April 10 (6.03m), but it was her first title in major competition this spring.

Novelle Murray tossed a personal best in the discus today. Her throw of 49.50m (162-05) is the third best in the Western Athletic Conference this season.

Kelsey Smith placed fourth overall in the javelin as she threw it 40.75m (133-08). Olivia Smoody also equaled her season best in the high jump at 1.63m (5-04.25).

Hawai`i will stay on the mainland and head to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays April 22-24.
