Four Men's Volleyball Players Suspended

Three Starters Among Those Who Will Miss BYU Series

HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i men's volleyball players Delano Thomas, Pedro Azenha, Jose Delgado, and Dio Dante have been suspended from the men's volleyball team for violating team rules, Head Coach Mike Wilton announced today. All four will not participate in this week's series against Brigham Young University, but may be reinstated as soon as March 22.

"They are suspended for breaking team rules," Wilton said, "and they could return as soon as March 22, but the ball is in their court." According to Wilton, there are stipulations that the players need to meet before reinstatement can occur.

Starters Thomas (6-7, OH/MB, Jr, Sacramento, CA), Azenha (6-5, OH, So, Sao Paulo, Brazil), and Delgado (6-3, OH, So, San Juan, Puerto Rico), as well as reserve Dante (6-7, OH, So, Kula, Maui) will not practice with the team during their suspension.

Practice will be held today at 3 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center. Wilton and the team will not be commenting on the infractions, but will be available to talk about this week's matches against the top-ranked Cougars.
