LAKESIDE, Calif.- The University of Hawai'i men's golf team wrapped-up the Barona Collegiate Cup on Tuesday by shooting an even par 288 as a team in the third round. The Warriors finished the two-day tournament with a three round total of 868, four strokes over par.
Senior golfer Ben Douglas, who shot a four-under 68 in the final round, led the Warriors and tied for 21st. Douglas' third round score tied his personal best, which was a four-under 68 he recorded at the 2002 Barona Collegiate Cup. Also competing for UH were Sophomore Pierre-Henri Soero (217, +1), junior Jarett Hamamoto(220, +4), sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger (222, +6) and junior Travis Toyama (226, +10).
Brigham Young University walked away with the team title after they finished with a three-round total of 822, 42 strokes below par and 19 strokes ahead of the second place finishers, Denver University and Texas A&M. The Cougar's Oscar Alvarez won a sudden-death playoff against Denver's James Love to earn the individual title. Alvarez and Love each finished with 54-round totals of 203, 13 strokes below par.
The Warriors will return to the islands to host the UH/Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on Nov. 1-3 at the Links at Turtle Bay golf course. At last season's Turtle Bay Intercollegiate, UH garnered a share of the team title, as they finished in a tie for first place with the University of South Carolina.
