Warriors in 17th after Day One of Wolf Pack Classic

RENO, Nev.- The University of Hawai'i men's golf team ended day one of the Nevada-hosted Wolf Pack Classic in 17th place as they got off to a slow start on the 7,100 yard Wolf Run Golf Course. The Warriors carded a 14-over-par 302 in round one and a 21-over-par 309 in the second round to finish the day.

Sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger shot back-to-back three-over 75's in the first two rounds to lead UH. Wolfenbarger finished day one in a five-way tie for 50th place. Senior Ben Douglas, who is seeing his first action of the season, shot a two-over 74 in round one and a five-over 77 in round two, which landed him in a tie for 55th place. Also competing for UH are junior Jarett Hamamoto (153, +9), sophomore Pierre-Henri Soero (157, +13) and junior Travis Toyama (162, +18).

Lamar University leads the 18-team field after amassing a daunting seven stroke lead through two rounds. The Cardinals have an opening day total of 564, 12 strokes below par. Denver's Charlie Soule, Lamar's Dawie VanDerWalt and Oregon State's Ryan Gilmour are in a three-way time atop the leader board after they all fired five-under 139's through day one. Tuesday's third and final round should be highly competitive as five golfers are currently only one stroke behind the three leaders. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday morning and tee-offs will begin with a shotgun start.
