News & Notes: After just 19 career matches, Natasha Kai has already moved into fourth place all-time in career points with 41....she surpassed Nicki Arakawa and trails Veronica Flores and Jennifer Starsiak by just six points for second place...with a goal against Bowling Green, senior Arlene Devitt upped her school record point total to 76...junior transfer Robyn deHay tied a school record with three assists in UH’s 4-0 win over Bowling Green...UH dropped to 4-3-2 in season openers with its loss to Arizona State...the Rainbow Wahine are 3-6 all-time in road openers..UH is 25-59-3 all-time on the road.
About the Matadors: CSN opened the season on the road at Loyola Marymount last Friday with a 2-0 loss to the Lions..the Matdors also played a scoreless tie with Azusa Pacific in an exhibition match last Wednesday...Mac Thompson was named interim head coach just weeks before the season opener...with as an assistant for Northridge, Thompson helped oversee the jump into the Big West Conference and school-best 12 victories in 2001...the match vs. UH will be CSN’s home opener...the team returns six starters and 11 letterwinners from last year’s squad.
About the 49ers: Long Beach State has dropped its first two matches to open the season...the 49ers lost by identical 1-0 scores to San Diego at home and nationally-ranked Stanford on the road...the 49ers hung tough with Stanford before a the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute...Long Beach State has been out-shot by a combined total of 27-5 in the two matches and were able to muster just one shot against the Cardinal in its last match...the 49ers were picked to finish fifth in the Big West in the preseason coaches poll...LBSU plays at San Diego State on Thursday before facing UH on Sunday.
About the Highlanders: UCR stand at 1-1-0 after splitting a pair of matches at the Northern Arizona Mountain Classic...the Highlanders opened the season with a 1-0 win over UC Riverside and fell to tournament host Northern Arizona, 4-1...UCR hosts Gonzaga on Friday in its home opener before hosting the Rainbow Wahine next Monday.
