Julian Sensley, a former star at Kalaheo High School on Oahu, has signed a scholarship agreement to join the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team for the fall pending confirmation of his associate's degree from Los Angeles City College. Sensley, who is still earning credits this summer toward his degree, will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited that Julian is returning to Hawai`i to become a part of the Rainbow basketball program," head coach Riley Wallace said. "He is a versatile athlete who can play both forward positions and will add to an already talented frontline. With his size and athleticism, he is the kind of player who can help strengthen our program."
Sensley, a 6-foot-9 forward, attended Western Athletic Conference rival Fresno State for one semester but did not practice or compete for the Bulldogs. Last season he transferred to LACC, where he garnered all-state honors for the 36-2 Cubs, which won the California Community College Championships. For the year, he averaged 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting .528 from the field. Several publications, including the Sporting News and Street & Smith's, rated Sensley as one of the Top 30 junior college players.
Sensley, who attended Kalaheo for three years, finished his high school career at St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Conn. At Kalaheo he was a two-time first team all-state selection and led the Mustangs to the state championships in 1999. As a junior, Sensley averaged 16.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game while earning Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division Player of the Year accolades. As a prepster, he was recruited by some 80 Division I programs.
Sensley joins the four recruits to sign with UH for the 2003-04 season.
