WAC Championships - Day 2 of Heptathlon
EL PASO, TEXAS - University of Hawai`i is in fifth place following the first two days of the 2003 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in El Paso, Texas. The decathlon (men) and heptathlon (women) were the only events completed. UH athletes
Lana Phillips and
Amanda Page finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the event.
Boise State, Louisiana Tech, SMU, and UTEP did not have anyone entered in the Heptathlon.
The second day of events in the Heptathlon were the long jump, javelin toss, and 800m run. Phillips and Page didn't pick up a lot of ground on the leader board; Phillips did manage to have a personal best in the javelin toss recording a throw of 35.37 meters for a second-place finish overall in the event.
Yesterday, the first day of the heptathlon, saw Page set two personal bests in the 200m dash (29.10) and 100m hurdles (17.24), while Phillips had her top mark in the 200-meter dash (27.17). Page also notched second place in the shot put (11.91m).
Friday, May 16, begins the full day of competition among the nine competing schools. Tomorrow's events for the women begin with the pole vault at 12:30 p.m. HST followed by the first running event the women's 1500m run (prelims) at 5 p.m.
