HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's and women's swimming and diving squads finished out the last meet of the season today at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The Last Chance meet was the final chance the swimmers had to make NCAA qualifying times. Along with UH, swimming teams from around the island swam today in the Hawai`i Senior Swimming Short Course Championships.
Sophomore Yan Chen was the sole swimmer to post an NCAA "B" standard qualifying time today, as she finished with a time of 56.40 in the 100 Back. This is Chen's personal best time of the season and is the second best time of the season.
Although there were no other qualifying times turned in today, many of the swimmers surpassed their previous personal best times. Whitney Field posted her personal best in the 100 Fly with a 1:00.85 finishing time.
Nick Cabebe outshined his previous best time of 21.37 when he clocked in at 21.27 in the 50 Free. Additionally, Cabebe improved his time in the 100 Fly, finishing at 53.86. Lance Fujioka improved his personal best in the 100 Free, posting a time of 49.02. Spencer Haskins outdid his previous personal best time of 5:02.62 in the 500 Free when he touched the wall at 4:59.49. Haskins also improved his time in the 100 Breast, as he clocked in a finishing time of 1:02.45.
