Last Chance Meet Gets Underway

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's and women's swimming and diving squad participated in the first day of the Last Chance Meet tonight, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The Last Chance meet gives the swimmers their final chance of the season to make NCAA qualifying times. The meet also included swim teams from around the island, who were competing in the Hawai`i Senior Swimming Short Course Championships.

The men's relay "A" team of Dan Blackborrow, Cheyne Bloch, Kurt Boehm and Peter Thew posted a NCAA "B" standard time of 3:17.36 in the 400 Medley Relay. There were no other qualifying times turned in at tonight's meet.

NCAA "B" standard times were turned in earlier in the season by YingJuan Zhen (50 Free & 200 Back), Yan Chen (200 Free & 200 Fly), Jessica Affleck (1650 Free), Morgan Hoesterey (100 Breast), Thew (200 Free), Andrew Affleck (500 & 1650 Free), Blackborrow (100 & 200 Back) and Boehm (100 & 200 Fly).

NCAA automatic qualifying times were earned earlier in the season by YingJuan Zhen (100 Back), Yan Chen (200 & 400 IM) and Bloch (100 Breast, 200 Breast & 200 IM).

The second and final day of the Last Chance Meet resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
